The City and The Bridge
There are many ways to see the Golden Gate Bridge, but to feel like it's almost on top of you, take the second exit after the bridge on northbound 101 and snake your way up to the first major vantage point in the Marin Headlands. Doesn't get any bigger than that.
The dome of the Palace of Fine Arts--home to the Exploritorium--glitters in the sunshine, forever hiding its nature as a temporary exhibition at a long-ago world's fair.

The bridge itself is a gorgeous piece of art. As Arnold Schwarzenegger fights to turn the new Bay Bridge into a monument to communist architecture, I relish the fact that he wasn't around when this masterpiece was created.
Groups of people gather at the overlook and take it all in.
Close-up, it seems no mystery how this bridge has survived numerous earthquakes.
Next time...just down a sliver of a road from this overlook is Pt. Bonita Lighthouse, which has a slightly smaller suspension bridge of its own.

While I sit here at my work station with rain, rain, rain outside (Washington, ya' know), it sure is nice to be able to take a tour of the Bay Area. Very nice.

I absolutely LOVE the bridge.
When you walk it, you feel it vibrate so it feels like it is alive.
Forget the Statue of Liberty, I think THE BRIDGE is the symbol of American. Bridging the gaps between rich and poor. Bridging the gaps between the sexes. Bridging the gaps between the races.
Ah...The bridge.
